Gentex Foundation Awards $20,000 STEM Scholarship to Forest Hills Eastern High School Student
ZEELAND, Mich., April 20, 2026 – The Gentex Foundation has selected Shriya Nallan Chakravarthi as the 2026 recipient of the Amanda Clark Scholarship, which supports female students pursuing science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) degrees.
Shriya, a senior at Forest Hills Eastern High School, plans to major in computer engineering at the University of Michigan and will receive a $5,000 scholarship for the 2026–2027 school year. The award is renewable for up to three additional years, totaling $20,000 in tuition support.
In her application, Shriya shared her goal of becoming an embedded software engineer and an advocate for ethical AI and women in technology. Her interest in computer engineering grew from early online coding courses and deepened through hands-on experience with hardware and problem solving in Science Olympiad.
“I quickly realized I loved computer engineering for the iterative challenge of turning 'nothing happened' into a diagnosable, solvable problem. While troubleshooting physical systems taught me how machines fail, I still needed to understand how logic and data drive those machines at scale,” she explained.

A recommendation letter highlighted Shriya’s ability to apply classroom learning to real-world situations, including her leadership in teaching coding sessions as part of the Code.org Computer Science Ambassador program.
At the University of Michigan, Shriya plans to participate in Formula SAE and Robotics teams to expand her experience with real-time operating systems and PCB integration.
“The selection committee was truly impressed by this year’s recipient,” said Seth Bushouse, Vice President of Human Resources. “Shriya’s passion for computer engineering and her drive to make a positive impact through technology made her an outstanding choice for this scholarship.”
